چکیده

Monsoon is the major manifestation of the seasonal cycle in the tropical regions, and there is a wide range of evidence from marine and terrestrial data that monsoon characteristics are affected by changes in the Earth’s orbital parameters. We consider 3 periods in the Eemian and 3 in the Holocene that present some analogy in the Earth’s orbital configuration in terms of obliquity and precession. Simulations with the IPSL CM4 ocean-atmosphere coupled model allow us to discuss the response of the Indian and African monsoon in terms of amplitude and response to the insolation forcing. Results show that precession plays a large role in shaping the seasonal timing of the monsoon system. Differences are found in the response of the two sub-systems. They result from the phase relationship between the insolation forcing and the seasonal characteristics of each subsystem. Also the response of the Indian Ocean is very different in terms of temperature and salinity when the change in insolation occurs at the summer solstice or later in the year. Monsoon has a large contribution to heat and water transports. It is shown that the relative importance of monsoon on the change in the energetic of the tropical regions also vary with precession.

Seasonal modulation of the Asian summer monsoon between the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age: a multi model study

Instrumental and proxy records indicate remarkable global climate variability over the last millennium, influenced by solar irradiance, Earth’s orbital parameters, volcanic eruptions and human activities. Numerical model simulations and proxy data suggest an enhanced Asian summer monsoon during the Medieval Warm Period (MWP) compared to the Little Ice Age (LIA). Using multiple climate model sim...

African monsoon variability during the previous interglacial maximum

Little is known about centennialto millennial-scale climate variability during interglacial times, other than the Holocene. We here present high-resolution evidence from anoxic (unbioturbated) sediments in the eastern Mediterranean Sea that demonstrates a sustained V800-yr climate disturbance in the monsoonal latitudes during the Eemian interglacial maximum (V125 ka BP). Results imply that befo...

Non-linear regime shifts in Holocene Asian monsoon variability: potential impacts on cultural change and migratory patterns

The Asian monsoon system is an important tipping element in Earth’s climate with a large impact on human societies in the past and present. In light of the potentially severe impacts of present and future anthropogenic climate change on Asian hydrology, it is vital to understand the forcing mechanisms of past climatic regime shifts in the Asian monsoon domain. Here we use novel recurrence netwo...

Effects of Environmental parameters on Metallotheionin changes in polycheate (Glycinde boundari) of Chabahar Bay

In addition to heavy metals, environmental factors affect to induce the synthesis of metallothionein (MT) contamination biomarker in vertebrates and invertebrates. Environmental parameters that were selected of nine stations in Chabahar Bay subtidal area (2013-14)  include temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and turbidity and heavy metals (copper, zinc, cadmium) in monsoon and post-monsoon,...

Northern hemisphere winter storm tracks of the Eemian interglacial and the last glacial inception

Climate simulations of the Eemian interglacial and the last glacial inception have been performed by forcing a coupled ocean-atmosphere general circulation model with insolation patterns of these periods. The parameters of the Earth’s orbit have been set to conditions of 125 000 and 115 000 years before present (yr BP). Compared to today, these dates represent periods with enhanced and weakened...
